The work of artist Elaine Coombs is derived from a fascination with the rhythms, colors and patterns of the natural world.  Local and national forest environments inform and inspire her luscious acrylic paintings on canvas and paper.   Born in Ontario, Canada in 1973, Elaine began painting and drawing at a young age, studying privately in a local painter’s studio for several years.  By 1996, she had received joint degrees in the Art & Art History program at both the University of Toronto in Mississauga and Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, learning from such well-known Canadian artists as John Armstrong, Libby Hague and Richard Sewell.

Elaine began earnestly focusing on her art career in 1999.  She relocated to San Francisco, California in 2001, developed her current style and focus and began to show her work regularly.  Her paintings have since been featured in solo and group shows nationally in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and beyond.  In 2005, she was selected for inclusion in five group shows, most notably by Steven Evans of the Dia Art Foundation for New Directions at the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, New York.  In 2007, Elaine’s work was chosen for the prestigious Selections exhibit by curators Rene de Guzman, Eleanor Harwood and Gabe Scott, organized biennially by ArtSpan in San Francisco.

Paintings by Elaine Coombs have been seen in several notable publications such as:  California Home + Design Magazine (2007); Studio Visit Magazine (Volumes 1 & 4, 2008); Sierra Heritage and Art Calendar Magazines (2009).  Her work can be found in numerous public, corporate and private collections including the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C. and the Ritz Carlton Highlands Hotel in Lake Tahoe, California.
